LED display due to the pixel density of heat itself is large, long time outdoor use, the internal temperature is bound to climb gradually, especially the area is relatively large outdoor LED display heat dissipation has become a problem that must be emphasized, LED display heat indirectly affects the service life of the LED display, and even directly affects the normal use of the LED display and safety. How to dissipate heat has also become a display must consider the problem.

There are three basic ways of heat transfer: thermal conductivity, convection and radiation.

Thermal conductivity: gas thermal conductivity is the result of gas molecules colliding with each other in irregular motion. Thermal conductivity in metal conductors is mainly accomplished by the movement of free electrons. Thermal conductivity in non-conducting solids is realized by the vibration of the lattice structure. The mechanism of thermal conductivity in liquids depends mainly on the action of elastic waves.

Convection: the process of heat transfer caused by relative displacement between parts of a fluid. Convection occurs only in fluids and is necessarily accompanied by thermal conductivity. Fluid flow over the surface of an object when the heat exchange process occurs, known as convective heat transfer. By the fluid hot and cold parts of the density of the different parts of the convection caused by the natural convection. If the movement of the fluid is caused by external forces (fans, etc.), it is called forced convection.

Radiation: The process by which an object transfers energy in the form of electromagnetic waves is called thermal radiation. Radiation can transfer energy in a vacuum, and there is a conversion of energy forms, i.e., thermal energy is converted to radiant energy and radiant energy is converted to thermal energy.

When choosing the heat dissipation method, the following factors should be considered: led display heat flow density, volume power density, total power consumption, surface area, volume, working environment conditions (temperature, humidity, air pressure, dust, etc.) and so on.

According to the heat transfer mechanism, there are natural cooling, forced air cooling, direct liquid cooling; evaporative cooling; thermoelectric cooling; heat pipe heat transfer and other heat dissipation methods.

Outdoor LED display heat dissipation design method

The heat exchange area between the heated electronic parts and the cold air, the temperature difference between the heated electronic parts and the cold air, directly affects the heat dissipation effect. This involves the design of the air volume size into the led display box, the design of the air duct. Ventilation duct design, try to use straight pipe to transport air, avoid using sharp bends and bends in the pipe. Ventilation ducts should avoid sudden expansion or sudden contraction. The tension angle of expansion should not exceed 20o, and the cone angle of contraction should not be greater than 60o. ventilation ducts should be sealed as much as possible, and all laps should follow the direction of flow.

Outdoor LED display

Outdoor LED display box design, there are a few points to note:

Air inlet holes should be set on the lower side of the box, but not too low, so that dirt and water do not enter the box installed on the ground.

Exhaust holes should be set near the upper side of the box.

Air should be circulated from the lower to the upper side of the box, and dedicated air inlet or exhaust holes should be used.

Cooling air should be allowed to flow through the heated electronic parts, and airflow should be prevented from short-circuiting.

Air inlet holes and air outlet need to set up a filter to prevent debris from entering the box.

The design should make the natural convection helps forced convection.

The design should ensure that the air inlet and air outlet are far away from each other. Avoid reusing cooling air.

It is important to ensure that the direction of the radiator teeth is parallel to the wind direction and that the radiator teeth do not block the wind path.

The fan is installed in the system, and due to structural limitations, the air inlet and outlet are often obstructed in various ways, and their performance curves will change. According to practical experience, the fan's air inlet and outlet should preferably have a distance of 40mm from the obstruction, and if there are space constraints, there should also be at least 20mm.

Outdoor LED display maintenance program, one should do a good job of heat dissipation measures, the second is the use of improper operation should be avoided. It is generally recommended to configure a fan or air conditioner to enhance the function of heat dissipation.
